The Challenge

The aim of Waikato Tainui is to grow a prosperous, healthy, vibrant, innovative and culturally strong Iwi to enable mana motuhake.

We heard in listening to their people that although Waikato Tainui provide many valuable services, it was hard to find information on them online.

Together, we saw the need was first to help their people access information, help and services. Second, we needed to keep their users involved in the process, ensuring the website was a reflection of their needs. Lastly, we needed to align with a new communication strategy. Producing a website that helped to lift the profile of Waikato Tainui.

From this our goals were:

  • Give the Iwi what they want - beautifully and usefully

  • Support a more seamless experience for users between the website and their data

  • Build, measure and learn in a user first way

The Outcome

We started out by understanding Waikato Tainui first. Meeting with key stakeholders from every service area to better understand their needs.
Next we talked to the Iwi to understand how the website impacts them. We also focused on accessibility in our design and delivery of the website. Ensuring all users from tūpuna to their mokopuna could achieve their goals. Accessing information and services designed to help improve the condition of their iwi.
We delivered a website that helps Waikato Tainui communicate with, provide services to and support their people. Users can now find information to help them get what they need. They can also find ways to become more engaged in their community.
